HOW TO SUCCEED WITH YOUR AVOCADO PLANTS

-Ebba, hur går det med dina avocados egentligen??
Tackar som frågar! De växer och frodas! Vad som en gång i tiden var en stackars grodd har blivit en hel liten skog av halvmetershöga blivande avocadoträd. Hur kommer det sig? Jo, för att jag har hittat det ultimata sättet för kärnorna att trivas och bilda rötter. Såhär går jag till väga:

Thank you for asking! They are growing and thriving! What once upon a time was one single seed has become a whole little forest of half-meter-high soon-to-be avocado trees. How come? Because I have found the ultimate way for the seeds to thrive and form roots. Here’s the secret:

När avocadomackan är uppäten tvättar jag och skalar kärnorna. Sedan lägger jag dem i en bytta som jag täcker med plastfolie och ställer på golvet.

When the avocado sandwich is eaten, I wash and peel the seeds. Then I put them in a pot that I cover with plastic wrap and put on the floor.

Eftersom vi har golvvärme blir det härligt varmt och fuktigt där inne, precis som dessa små kärnor vill ha det. Jag brukar byta vatten ungefär två gånger i veckan. Om man inte har golv-värme kan man till exempel ställa kärnorna på ett element.

Since we have underfloor heating, it gets warm and moist inside, just like these little seeds wants it. I usually change water about twice a week. But if you don’t have floor heating, you can put the seeds on an element.

Efter en till två veckor har kärnorna spruckit upp och och en liten svans börjat titta fram. Då brukar jag trycka in tandpetare i sidorna och sätta dem i en burk med rumstempererat vatten med “svansen” nedåt. Efter detta brukar det ta kanske en vecka innan avocadon börjar växa uppåt, och när det väl händer går det fort- ibland känns det som att de växt över en centimeter under natten när man tittar till dem på morgonen.

After one to two weeks the seeds have burst up and a little tail began to grow. Then I usually put toothpicks on the sides and put them in a can of room-tempered water with the “tail” downwards. After that, it usually takes a week before the avocado begins to grow upwards, and when if finally does, things are happening fast. Sometimes it feels like they grow over a centimeter during the night when I look at them in the morning.

Vi har inte riktigt bestämt om vi ska plantera våra eller fortsätta ha dem i vatten, jag tycker att det är så fint att se rötterna genom glaset samtidigt som jag vet att de trivs bättre i jord när det blivit så pass stora som våra. Vi får se. Lycka till med avocadoträden nu!

We haven’t really decided whether to plant ours or continue to have them in water, I think it’s so nice to see the roots through the glass though I know that they feel better in soil when they have become as big as ours. We’ll see. Good luck with your future avocado trees now!
